2016: Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams)
In 2016, the Los Angeles Rams surprised us all by making a blockbuster trade to move up from the 15th Overall Pick to the 1st Overall Pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Rams Received:
1st Overall Pick (2016)
117th Pick (2016)
177th Pick (2016)
Titans Received:
15th Overall Pick (2016)
43rd Overall Pick (2016)
45th Overall Pick (2016)
76th Overall Pick (2016)
1st-Round Pick (207)
3rd-Round Pick (2017)
The Titans were able to receive one of the biggest hauls I have ever seen in a trade in my lifetime. To make things even sweeter, the Titans were able to hit on these draft picks. After a flurry of other draft moves, this haul netted the Titans the following players: OT Jack Conklin, RB Derrick Henry, DT Austin Johnson, CB LeShaun Sims, WR Corey Davis and TE Jonnu Smith. Conklin and Henry are now considered two of the best at their respective positions -- though Conklin now plays in Cleveland -- while Davis and Smith are two very respectable players at their positions as well, both of which have also moved on to new teams as well. Austin Johnson made a solid impact on the Titans, and this ended up being an incredible haul for the Titans.
While the Titans enjoyed their end of the deal, the Rams now find themselves without Jared Goff, after trading him to the Detroit Lions this offseason. However, Goff played decently in his time with the Rams. He is a 2x Pro-Bowler and had winning seasons with the Rams every year after his rookie season. Furthermore, he took the team to a Super Bowl. While this may seem like a success, head coach Sean McVay played a pivotal role in Goff’s achievements. His willingness to trade Goff so early in his young career proves that McVay could’ve likely emulated this success with a variety of other quarterbacks, making this trade a loss for the Rams.
