The iconic Mitchell Trubisky trade.

Bears Received:

  • 2nd Overall Pick (2017)

49ers Received:

  • 3rd Overall Pick (2017)

  • 67th Overall Pick (2017)

  • 111th Overall Pick (2017)

  • 3rd-Round Pick (2018)

I don’t need to get into what the 49ers drafted because it is just irrelevant to who won this trade… The Bears decided to move up ONE spot in this draft to get MITCHELL TRUBISKY!!! Enough said.

This trade was awful for a multitude of reasons, starting with Mike Glennon. The Bears decided to sign QB Mike Glennon to a three-year $45 million contract entering this draft. Now, if they thought Glennon was worth $15 million a year, they should’ve let him start at quarterback, but they didn’t. They decided to draft Mitchell Trubisky, which is fine, except for the fact that they felt the need to trade the 49ers extra draft capital to get a player that would’ve likely been there with the third Overall Pick.

It was pretty much a consensus amongst every draft analyst that Trubisky was not a top ten talent in this draft. However, since he was a quarterback, there was an argument to be made of him getting drafted inside the top ten. The 1st Overall Pick was going to be Myles Garrett… and everyone knew that with the 2nd Overall Pick, the 49ers could’ve drafted a quarterback, but after signing QB Brian Hoyer and QB Matt Barkley in the offseason, it didn’t seem likely that they would use that high of a pick on Trubisky. Even if they did want Trubisky, the Bears should’ve known they didn’t want Trubisky since they were willing to trade the pick to the Bears.

With all that said, the worst part of this trade was that they moved up to grab Trubisky, only to see two of the top quarterbacks in the NFL as of now, in  Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, get drafted after them. Trubisky is now a backup for the Buffalo Bills and Andy Dalton is now QB1 for the Bears after a lackluster year in Dallas.

This was an all-time worst trade for me, and the Bears should be absolutely disgusted with this trade.
