NY Jets Finally Moving on from QB Sam Darnold

Broken by Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the New York Jets have traded their former starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, to the Carolina Panthers for a series of 2021 and 2022 draft picks.

The package being sent over by the Carolina Panthers is made up of this year’s 226th pick (sixth-round selection), next year’s second-round pick, and next year’s fourth-round pick.

Darnold, 23, has shown promise and improvement in his first two seasons. However, after some inability to stay on the field, as well as productivity issues under less-than-capable then-head coach Adam Gase, New York has officially decided to move on from their 2018 first-The Jets, they’ve got a new franchise quarterback on their radar, and with the second overall pick in this upcoming draft, we only know who it WON’T be.

Clemson’s former golden boy quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, is the consensus number one pick this year. With the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-15 last season) on the clock, there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Lawrence will be selected first overall.

But back to the Jets. There is now a gaping hole at the quarterback position for the green team in New Jersey.

If only they had selected Lamar.

There are a handful of options here at number two, but in my humble opinion, there is only one right answer.

This is Zach Wilson. If you only watch “Power 5” college football, you probably haven’t heard much of his name. But believe me, the kid is no joke. Wilson is the former starting quarterback for Brigham Young University, who recently delighted NFL scouts and coaches at his March 26th pro day.

He’s a three-time Bowl Game MVP (Famous Idaho Potato, Hawaii and Boca Raton), as well as a three-year starter and one of the only top quarterbacks available to have played a full schedule in 2020. And man can this kid sling the football.

Newly hired Jets Head Coach, Robert Saleh, has been very coy about the quarterback situation from the very first press conference following his hiring, but with Darnold headed to the Mid-Atlantic, it is clear that the Jets seek greener pastures.
