What Now for the Dallas Cowboys?

Dak Prescott has just re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys for 4yr/160 million dollars, with 126 million dollars guaranteed.

Now with their franchise quarterback locked up for the foreseeable future, we’ll look toward their future.

With Prescott finally re-signed, the Cowboys should once again be the favorites to win the NFC West for the third time since he was drafted in 2016.

The Washington Football team recently released Alex Smith from the team after he had a 5-1 record for them when he returned from his broken leg, an injury many believed was career-ending. While their defense was spectacular for them, they do not have a good starting quarterback option going forward, unless you truly believe in Taylor Heinicke.

The Philadelphia Eagles just got rid of their starting quarterback and now will be moving forward with Jalen Hurts as their starter. Hurts had flashes in the games that he played in as a rookie, but the Eagles team surrounding him isn’t the best.

The Giants are coming off a 6-10 season where their scoring defense was top 10, but their offense was ranked 31st in terms of scoring.

Right now the Dallas Cowboys have by far the best quarterback in the division, something that was evident the moment Prescott injured his ankle last season.

On the offensive end, the Cowboys have the weapons to put up 30 points a game on anyone. Amari Cooper is a four-time pro bowler and one of the best route runners in the game. Ezekiel Elliot is still a top running back in the league, despite having a down year as it was just the second time in his career that he failed to hit 1,000 rushing yards. Even still, Elliot had 979 yards in 15 games. With Dak back, he should clear 1,000 yards once again as long as he’s given the carries to do so. CeeDee Lamb looks like a great compliment receiver after he caught 74 balls for 935 yards and five touchdowns. Michael Gallup had 843 yards and five touchdowns as well in 2020.

In the five games that Dak played, he was averaging 371 passing yards per game, which when extrapolated over a whole season would’ve easily broken the record for most passing yards in a season by a few hundred yards.

However, the one thing that plagued the Cowboys in Dak’s starts last year was the fact that they kept getting behind early, forcing them to have to throw the ball a lot in order to come back in games.

The Cowboys must get off to better starts next year in order to keep the running game in effect and be more balanced on the offensive end. Their defense wasn’t good, so keeping them off the field as much as possible will be key to beating the great teams this upcoming season.

Next season, Dak will be looking forward to proving the people wrong that will probably be claiming that he was overpaid on his new contract. There is a very strong chance that the Cowboys win the division for the third time as the Cowboys have a chance to also win double-digit games in 2021.
