Virgo World: Lil Tecca Album Review

By Keegan Singh

New York rapper, Lil Tecca just released his second studio album titled Virgo World last Friday. If you are unfamiliar with the work of Lil Tecca, I highly suggest you give some of his songs a listen. Since releasing his debut hit single “Ransom” in 2019, Lil Tecca has emerged as one of the biggest up and coming artists in the hip-hop scene — and he’s only 18-years-old.

The single peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also got certified platinum shortly after. With the success of “Ransom”, Tecca released his first studio album titled “We Love You Tecca” with hit singles such as: “Out of Luck,” “Love Me” “Shots” and “Ransom Remix ft. Juice Wrld.” His first album recently hit platinum in September of this year, and adds to a growing accumulation of awards.

His unique style and flow makes him so different to other hip-hop artists in the game right now, it's what attracts a lot of people to his music. His fans fall in love with him for more than just his songs, Tecca used to get bullied in high school for looking like a nerd and being socially awkward. He uses his platform to make songs about ignoring hate and just focus on improving your own wellbeing, which makes him and his music so relatable.

The album has a perfect mixture of songs, which displays Tecca’s maturity for his age.

His most recent album Virgo World continued to show Tecca’s versatility and potential as an artist. Consisting of 19 songs, the album shows his lyrical ability along with his catchy melodies and flow switches. He has always had the ability to make catchy songs with memorable and catchy lyrics but this album showed a different side of him. Some of the biggest features included on the album are: Lil Uzi Vert, Polo G, Lil Durk, Skrillex and NAV. After listening to the album multiple times, I split the songs into three different categories based on the sound and vibe. These categories are:

Party Time (Songs that can be played at any party to get everyone up and moving):

  • Royal Rumble

  • Out of Love (ft. Internet Money)

  • Selection (ft. Skrillex and DJ Scheme)

  • Back It Up

  • Chemistry

  • Foreign (ft. NAV)

  • Dolly (ft. Lil Uzi Vert)

  • Actin Up

  • Miss Me

Lyrically Sound (Songs with impactful lyrics but contain melodies and beats that still keep an upbeat vibe):

  • Last Call

  • Our Time

  • Insecurities

  • True To The Game (ft. Guwop Reign)

  • Level Up

  • No Answers

In The Feels (Lyrical songs to listen to when you’re feeling down):

  • When You Down (ft. Polo G and Lil Durk)

  • Closest to Heaven

  • Take 10

  • Tic Toc

The album isn’t only made for fans of rap music. If you’re just a fan of music as a whole, I would highly recommend listening to the album. There are songs that will have your head bopping and others that might just bring a tear to your eye. The album has a perfect mixture of songs, which displays Tecca’s maturity for his age. My favorite songs from the album and ones that I would highly recommend are: “Last Call”, “Dolly”, “Royal Rumble”, “Out of Love” and “Closest to Heaven”. All in all, this was a very good album. There are some songs that are below average and not that enjoyable but those are outweighed by other songs like the ones I mentioned above. If you were unaware of Lil Tecca prior to reading this, I hope you give his music a listen to and enjoy what you hear.

Overall Grade for the album: 8/10
