Predicting the 2021 WWE SummerSlam Pay-Per-View

The biggest party of the summer is less than a month away and it is time to look at some early predictions for SummerSlam.

Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (C) vs John Cena

After his return at Money in the Bank for the first time in over a year, John Cena is looking to become a 17-time world champion. This will be his first world championship since defeating AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble four years ago.

This pay-per-view will make it a year since Roman Reigns has returned, and he’s been unstoppable since. He’s run through everyone that’s been in his path. Whether that’s been Braun Stroman, The Fiend, his cousin Jey Uso, Kevin Owens, Cesaro, Daniel Bryan and his latest challenger Edge, no one has been able to keep up with the Tribal Chief. Cena looks like the one wrestler who may finally be able to stop the Head of the Table.

This will be a rematch from No Mercy in 2017, where Reigns defeated Cena. Reigns is even more dominant this time around and has the Usos in his corner now.

Prediction: John Cena overcomes the odds and wins his career’s 17th, and likely last, world championship.

Edge vs. Seth Rollins

This is a match that has origins in their first meeting back in 2014. Rollins threatened to stomp Edge’s neck to get Cena to reinstate the authority. Neither man has forgotten that moment and their inevitable clash has only been fueled by the fact that Rollins cost Edge the title at Money in the Bank.

This is one of those dream matches that people hoped to see when Edge returned last year, and we’ll finally get it at Summerslam. Edge made his career off being the Ultimate Opportunist, but Rollins himself has shown the ability to take advantage of the opportunity himself (Heist of the Century). However, WWE cannot book Edge to lose too frequently in his miraculous return from career-ending injuries.

Prediction: Edge gets his revenge on Rollins.

Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair

The Raw Women’s Championship will take a backseat in the rivalry between these two women. Flair has beaten Ripley two times so far in consecutive matches and Ripley is still looking for that decisive victory over Flair, and there’s no better upcoming moment for her than to do it at Summerslam.

This will be a tough task as Flair hasn’t lost at Summerslam in her entire career. She’s beaten the likes of Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Carmella and defeated arguably the greatest woman in WWE history in Trish Stratus two years ago.

Prediction: Flair once again defeats Ripley to hopefully end this feud.

SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Bianca Belair (C) vs. Sasha Banks

The rematch a lot of fans have wanted to see since WrestleMania. Banks and Belair will once again put on a classic match. Banks has been gone since the first Smackdown post WrestleMania. Rumors have been swirling around that Banks is going to return soon. When she returns, she’s going to want her rematch for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. Smackdown’s women’s roster isn’t that deep so there aren’t many options for Belair at the next pay-per-view.

Prediction: Belair once again defeats Banks and proves the first win wasn’t a fluke.

Raw Women’s Championship Match: Nikki A.S.H (C) vs. Alexa Bliss

After defeating Flair for the Women’s Championship on Raw, Nikki A.S.H.’s first challenger will need to be a big name to get it off to a good start. What better person than her old friend Alexa Bliss. They have a lot of history from the past couple of years. There’s probably no better person to challenge her superhero persona, than a person with mystical powers.

Prediction: Nikki A.S.H beats her former best friend in her first title defense
