NFL Week 1 Injury Fallout

Week 1 has come and gone and with limited contact in a shortened training camp, no rookie OTAs and, most significantly, no preseason, there were expected to be a lot of things that the NFL needed to clean up. Teams for the most part entered the season fairly healthy. However, there were expected to be some injures that occurred, being that this was the first time teams were seeing real physical contact on the year. Down below is a list of players that were injured during week 1’s games that bare monitoring.

  • Running back Marlon Mack exited the game early for the Indianapolis Colts with a lower foot injury and did not return. Monday morning confirmed what the Colts were already expecting, Marlon Mack suffered a torn Achilles and will miss the remainder of the 2020 season.

  • Saints Michael Thomas had a teammate roll up on his ankle in Sundays win over Tampa Bay. While there are no reports on the severity of Thomas’ injury yet, he was reportedly able to walk around the locker room after the game, which is of course a good sign for his week 2 status.

  • Browns tight end David Njoku suffered sprained MCL in Sundays game against the Ravens and was subsequently place on Injured Reserve Monday morning, meaning that he will miss at least 3 weeks.

  • Running back Le’Veon Bell left Sundays game in the third quarter after trying to play through the injury. Bell suffered a hamstring injury. According to Adam Gase, Bell will be out at least a few weeks to open up the season.

  • George Kittle left Sundays game for the 49ers for a brief moment due to a knee injury. While Kittle was able to come back into the game to play, he did not do much in the game. Early reports seem to indicate that Kittle wont miss any time due to the injury.

  • Cowboys tight end Blake Jarwin injured his knee in Sundays game and it was immediately feared that he tore his ACL. Monday morning confirmed that Jarwin will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL.

  • Cameron Erving suffered a sprained MCL Sunday night and is expected to miss a few weeks. The Cowboys have already ruled Erving out for week 2.

  • Leighton Vander Esch also left Sundays game due early with an injury. Reports Monday morning confirmed that Vander Esch will miss 6-8 weeks after suffering a broken collarbone Sunday night.

  • Linebacker Blake Cashman left Sundays game for the Jets due to a groin injury. Head coach Adam Gase said that it will be a few weeks before Chasman will be able to get back on the field.

  • Packers defensive tackle Kenny Clark injured his groin in Sundays game and was ruled out for the rest of the game. There is no update as to his week 2 status.

  • Packers guard Lucas Patrick’s shoulder is not expected to be as serious. He still has a chance to play week 2.

  • Packers guard Lane Taylor injured his knee in Sundays game. Reports Monday confirmed that Taylor will miss the remainder of the season.

  • The Las Vegas Raiders lost starting tackle Trent Brown in the first quarter due to a calf injury. There is no update as to his week 2 status as of this time.  

  • Nick Kwiatkoski  injured his pectoral on Sunday and was immediately ruled out for the Raiders. After the initial scare, reports say that the Raiders are optimistic about the injury and its outlook for the rest of the season.

  • Bills linebackers Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder), Del'Shawn Phillips (quad), and Matt Milano  (hamstring) both left Sundays game. While Sean McDermott is hopeful that the injuries are not series, there is no further update at this time.

  • Miami’s leading receiver DeVante Parker suffered a hamstring injury in Sundays game against the Patriots. His status for week 2’s game is up in the air at this point.

  • Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley injured his ankle and did not play the rest of Sundays game against the Browns. On Monday morning, John Harbough confirmed that Stanley is expected to practice on Wednesday, making his outlook for Sunday that much better.

  • Panthers corner Donte Jackson injured his ankle on Sunday. The severity of his injury is unknown at this point.

  • The Browns first round tackle Jedrick Wills left week 1’s game against the Ravens after suffering a leg injury. X-Rays on his leg came back negative, and Wills will try to practice this week. With the Browns playing on Thursday night in week 2, it is uncertain at this point if Wills we be good to go for that game.

  • Jacob Phillips was ruled out after suffering a knee injury after getting the start at linebacker for the Browns. On Monday morning, the Browns were not able to offer much information on Phillips’ status.

  • Jaguars starting safety Josh Jones exited Sundays win against the Colts early with a leg contusion. Before leaving the game, Jones had 12 tackles. There is no update on his injury at this point.

  • Vinny Curry left Sundays game for the Eagles with a hamstring injury and is expected to miss 4 weeks.

  • Eagles defensive ends Brandon Graham was evaluated for a head injury. On Monday morning, Graham was placed in concussion protocol.

  • Lions lost two corners on Sunday when Justin Coleman left the game early after injuring his left knee. Desmond Trufant also exited early with a hamstring injury. There is no update on either players injury to this point.

  • LA Chargers linebacker Drue Tranquill injured his ankle early in the game and he was immediately ruled out after he needed to have his leg put into an air cast.

  • Chargers running back Justin Jackson did not return to Sundays game after suffering a quad injury. He is considered day-to-day.

  • Bengals lineman Xavier Su'a-Filo exited the game early against the Los Angeles Chargers with a left ankle injury and did not return to practice on Monday.

  • The 49ers injury problems continue at the wide receiver position when Richie James suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday. James’ status for Week 2 is unclear at this point. With the 49ers already riddled with injuries at the position, this one hurts big time.
