BREAKING: Ravens Terminate Contract of Star Safety Earl Tomas
By A.J. Olona
On August 23rd, the Baltimore Ravens released safety Earl Thomas for “conduct detrimental to the team”. This was following an altercation with fellow safety Chuck Clark. Per reports, Thomas was not well liked within the organization. Thomas had been making a habit of skipping team walkthroughs, missing key assignments, and showing up late to team meetings. All of this frustration came to a boiling point when a physical altercation broke out at team practice, in which Thomas was sent home. This release is another set back for Thomas, who has had a rough few months.
Back in May, Thomas was reportedly held at gunpoint by his wife Nina. This was after she found him in bed with his brother and other women. This story gained national coverage and was likely something the Ravens were not happy with.
Thomas was only entering his second year of a 4 year, $55 million deal with the Ravens. While Thomas is 31 years old, he proved last year that he has plenty left to offer in this league (except for maybe the Tennessee Titans). Following his 7th Pro Bowl appearance, look for Thomas to garner a lot of interest in the coming days. The Dallas Cowboys are the favorites to land the seven time pro bowler.
