Day One Highlights of E3 2021

E3 is back! After a year break due to COVID-19, the biggest gaming convention has returned! Did it live up to expectations? What was talked about and presented? I am going to cover some of my personal highlights and some of the biggest announcements of the year.

Let's start with what E3 is if you have no idea what I am talking about. E3, or The Electronic Entertainment Expo, is a yearly convention put on by the Entertainment Software Association where the biggest names in video game development and publishing come together to present their flagship products for the year over the course of four days. First, put on in 1995, E3 has been one of the most anticipated events of the year for gaming fans.

This year at E3, all the major companies, with the exception of PlayStation, were in attendance. We had a lot of unexpected announcements as well as missing out on hearing more information about stuff that has already been announced. Well, there is no better place to start than day one of the expo so, let’s get into it!

Day one consisted mainly of Ubisoft Forward. Unfortunately, it was a lot of stuff we already knew about. The biggest takeaway from this event was Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be the first Assassin’s Creed game in the franchise's history to receive a second year’s worth of content! Some of the content announced was a new expansion focusing on the Viking Siege of Paris as well as a new Discovery Tour taking place in the Viking age! This is a fun little extra that recent Assassin’s Creed games have implemented where you can take a break from the hacking and slashing, and actually learn something about the time period the game is set in. We also got to see some footage of the upcoming Rainbow Six Extraction. This is a new game focusing on the operators from Rainbow Six Siege having to deal with an alien threat to the planet. This new game introduces multiple new ways to play with your favorite operators!
