AB the HERO is a sports vlogger from Indianapolis, Indiana whose motto is “AB The HERO Aspiring To Inspire Before I Expire.” After working at a youth shelter with underprivileged youth, AB realized that he couldn’t continue talking to the kids about following their dreams if he wasn’t following his dreams himself. AB then rediscovered his desire to make content and be a storyteller on YouTube.

As AB was reestablishing his YouTube career, he became infatuated with the story of the Ball Family. The Ball Family is a basketball family that consists of the New Orleans Pelicans’ guard Lonzo, Charlotte Hornets’ guard LaMelo, The NBA G-League’s LiAngelo, and their parents LaVar and Tina Ball. AB’s desire to root for the Ball Family came from their story being similar to the kids AB was mentoring at his youth shelter. AB then started making YouTube videos advocating for the Ball Family after many attempts of challenging critics online.

AB’s Ball Family content started with him doing game analysis of LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball’s games for the Vytautas Prienai in Lithuania. Critics felt that the brothers’ move to Lithuania killed any chance of the boys making it to the NBA. AB was determined to disprove that narrative. He was committed to making content centered around recapping the boy’s play and was eventually discovered by the Ball Family’s team and the Big Baller Brand (BBB) which is a family brand LaVar Ball founded when his boys were younger.

After the Big Baller Brand was given an F by the Better Business Bureau, AB started content urging people who have had positive experiences with the Big Baller Brand to leave positive comments on the Better Business Bureau’s website. That effort by AB was eventually awarded the opportunity to work with the Ball Family in LaVar Ball’s Junior Basketball Association (JBA) league. He was invited to the JBA tryouts and was able to film the whole experience for his Youtube channel. From there, he was officially a part of the JBA team and became a commentator for the league. During AB’s time with the JBA, he made purposive and inspiring content that really highlighted the beauty of the league.

AB took away some valuable lessons from LaVar and his JBA league. Firstly, he believes that people should take their life into their own hands. The world will make you feel like you have to follow a certain path to be successful, but you can truly do what you want when you run the show. LaVar’s league proved to be successful, not because it was a successful league, but because at least one of his sons was able to make it to the NBA after playing in that league. AB also realized that you can overcome any obstacle if you’re willing to take risks. He witnessed LaVar and his family face adversity and still jump out and take risks. He wants the youth he’s mentored and all his followers to have that same drive.

Today you can catch AB the HERO! making phenomenal sports content on his YouTube channel. He still makes content uplifting the Ball family, and he does pre-game and post-game analysis of the Ball brothers’ games. He’s still inspiring others to be content creators and to get into the YouTube game. He also wants people to create their own path in whatever they do. AB has some great projects coming out in the future, so be on the lookout!
