A Quick Look: Brands Going Sustainable

I started working at Victoria’s Secret about three months ago as a selling associate. I hadn’t been shopping there for a while because of the pandemic and because I usually only went for specific things. I noticed a huge change though. PINK by Victoria’s Secret has picked up on the sustainability trends. Not only have their bags changed to recycled paper, but they’re also environmentally cautious with their products as well. They recently came out with one size t-shirts that were made from recycled products like bottles.

The consumer dynamic has definitely changed in recent years. We are all becoming more cautious about what we’re supporting and where our merchandise is coming from and how it’s made. Years ago consumers would be real leather and a fur jacket without blinking an eye. Now we’ve adopted the concept of faux furs and vegan leather items.

Another brand I’m quite frequent with has also adopted sustainability practices. H&M has been creating apparel with recycled polyester and organic fabrics as well. In 2020 out of 250 companies they scored the highest for sustainability efforts.

If shopping with a brand that is environmentally conscious is important to a customer, the first thing they should be doing is research. The brand or company usually has information available online to read about their practices and their goals to reduce the global footprint. For instance, both H&M and PINK share their practices and what their goals are online so customers are aware before visiting stores and know what is being offered and how the merchandise was produced/what produced it.

We should all be environmentally conscious to keep not only our planet safe but ourselves. There are plenty more brands that are adopting environmentally conscious practices and I urge you to research the new adoptions.
