Barbie movie breaks box office records

Barbie has been the year's biggest box office draw, breaking records and earning $1.36 billion (£1.082 billion) thus far. It is only the 53rd picture in cinema history to join the coveted billion dollar club - not bad for a movie about a doll.

The film follows a Barbie doll that does not fit in at Barbieland and embarks on a journey to the Real World, accompanied by a Ken.

The film has acquired a huge popularity among male, female, and non-binary viewers, aided by the Barbenheimer hype but quickly blazing a path to box office success on its own.
